It’s All About the Dress

True, genuine, friendship, “I’ve-Got-You-Girl” love!  Brides rally together to see what other brides are doing.

Yesterday was my wedding anniversary.  14 years!  Looking through the photos, and remembering the day, I yearned for my dress.  I loved my dress.  It was the most amazing dress I have ever worn.  (And I am so thankful that it didn’t get lost in our house fire, though it was in the next room!)

I am a member of many different bride groups on Facebook, and I am constantly amazed to see how many brides post pictures of their wedding dress.  Brides are posting pictures from the bridal store, from home, from anywhere… just because you have questions.  Your hair is messy, your makeup is not perfect… but the dress is!

The internet is a wonderful place to post a question, especially when you want honest.  The internet is not afraid to be honest, and they will always deliver.

What’s truly amazing, though, is how supportive people truly are.  In general, brides, you post pictures of yourself in the dress, asking the general world if this dress is “the one”.  You felt it when you first tried it on, but now you want the honest opinion of the internet.  Hundreds of comments!  Within moments!

I have to say how proud I am of brides.  Brides are a unique breed.  You are going through one of the most stressful times.  There are rules, and guidelines, and a million people around you saying what you should and should not do.  The one thing you absolutely have control over is what you wear, and yet, you are asking how you look.  Other brides… in the same situation… going through the same issues and the same stress… love on you!  It is so cool to see.  In a world where we can give a genuine, heartfelt opinion, with almost no repercussions, you see love.  True, genuine, friendship, “I’ve-Got-You-Girl” love!  Brides rally together to see what other brides are doing.  You genuinely care for each other.

When I went through picking out my wedding dress, I just knew.  I knew from the moment I put it on that it was it.  It was not white, it was called “Light Gold”.  It was way out of my price range, but my parents were absolutely amazing to help.  It was the 4th dress I tried on, and I didn’t want to try on any others.  I look back, and though it is way out of style now, I still think it is the most amazing dress ever!  I never got it preserved, nor have I ever done a thing to it.  It is in a closet, but it is just incredible.

My wish for you, dear brides, that with the support and love that you receive from other brides, that you truly feel about your dress the way that I do.  14 years later, and I still love it!  When you’ve found it, you know it.  It is a feeling in your gut.  Don’t go against your gut feeling.  You have an entire marriage to look forward to, and you have to start trusting your gut now.  When you know it’s the one, that’s it.  Your dress should be the most amazing thing you ever put on.  Go ahead, and reach out.  Ask people for their opinions, but understand, it’s all about you.  It’s your day… it’s your dress!
